HHCDR: Smoking Measure FAQ

  1. What are the criteria for a patient to be selected for the Smoking measure?

    The patient must be 18 years or older.

  2. Our patient was prescribed a sedative to help him stop smoking.  Would this count as a ‘yes’?

    Yes, if it is indicated this patient was taking the sedative for smoking cessation in the record.

  3. If a patient is on nicotine patch, would that count as an intervention?

    Yes, as this is pharmacotherapy for nicotine withdrawal.

  4. My patient smoked 20 years ago.  How do I answer the smoking questions?

    When asked if the patient was screened, the response is ‘yes’.  When asked if patient is a current smoker, answer ‘no’.
